Work with Tumelo

Culture 13
Scene Lab

Original scenes. Rehearsal. Room to try again.

A small actor-director lab for reading, rehearsing and working through original scenes. We try different choices and explore how a change in direction affects the performance.

Working with Actors — Echoes Pre Production
The Idea

For each session, I write a short original scene and bring actors into the room to work on it. We read it, shape it, redirect it, adjust it, and push for a deeper understanding of the scene, the characters, and the performance.

The session gives us time to explore a scene without preparing it for an audience. Come ready to listen, make suggestions and try another take.

Preparation gives us time to experiment. Bring your ideas and be willing to see what changes when you try another approach.

How It Works
01

Original Material

A short original scene is written for the room.

02

Actors Apply & Receive Material

Actors register interest, and selected actors are sent the scene in advance so they can arrive prepared, with room still left to discover it on the day.

03

We Come In & Run Through It

We read, block, discuss, redirect, adjust beats, explore choices, make suggestions, and find the scene together.

04

We Improve

We compare the choices we tried and discuss what changed in the scene, so everyone leaves with something to carry into their next rehearsal or shoot.

Who It Is For

Actors who want to be directed.

The Culture 13 Scene Lab is for actors who want fresh material, a serious room, and real experience responding to direction without the pressure of an audience or final performance.

  • Actors building a craft.
  • Actors who want to sharpen listening, adjustment, and scene instincts.
  • Actors who value process as much as outcome.
  • Actors who love to act and want more chances to do the work.
What It Is Not

Not a class. Not a showreel shoot.

This is not an acting class, a public showcase, or a guaranteed footage session. It is a private working room built around craft, experimentation, and development. Footage may be available upon request where possible, but the priority is the work in the room.

  • No audience.
  • Original scenes sent to selected actors in advance.
  • Time to discuss choices and respond to direction.
  • No pressure to perform perfectly.
The Standard

Arrive prepared. Stay open to another approach.

Read the scene before the session, listen to your scene partner and be willing to try a different choice. Everyone should have space to ask questions, offer ideas and discuss what is working.
